PBKS’s next match is against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), which will be without Dhawan. Spin bowling coach Sunil Joshi confirmed Dhawan’s absence in the pre-match press conference, but said that Dhawan is now on the road to recovery and could potentially be available for the next match.
“Shikhar Dhawan was injured on the field, we miss his batting services. He is on the road to recovery and we hope to see him fit soon,” Joshi said.
PBKS will have to prepare to clash with KKR in this match, who have so far registered 5 wins out of their 7 matches. However, according to Joshi, the team has to be prepared for this challenge.
Joshi said, “We are not worried about KKR’s spin bowling. Every cricketer who comes to IPL, one of the best leagues in the world, presents a challenge. You have to accept the challenge. Whether you perform or not, you have to be prepared. Every day is a different day with different challenges. Your body feels differently. “We feel we are ready for tomorrow.”
He further said, “It is important to understand that any team will go through wins and losses. Our focus is on rising again. This is a shorter format of the game, where you can get a six off the best ball or get a wicket off the loose ball.”
“It depends on how you prepare your body for game day and how relaxed you are mentally. Every time you face performance stress, your body may not activate. You have to stay calm and play one ball at a time,” Joshi said.
Regarding KKR’s good form, Joshi said,
“We go through a lot of things step-wise during our training sessions. One of the areas we need to work on is not losing too many wickets in the middle overs. Hopefully, the pressure is now on the home team – because we’re on the road again. So, we can play freely and score runs,” Joshi said.
“KKR has been performing consistently well in all three departments. Any team that covers all three departments will top the table. You have to respect him. But every day, every game is different. Home and away conditions have their own playing scenarios and a lot of things matter. So, hopefully it will be a good game for us tomorrow.”
When asked about the form of the overseas players, Joshi said, “We are a team and we win or lose together. The team has worked very hard and we have to work together.”
