The importance of IPL is immense for Indian players, especially those whose teams are going into the playoffs. After the IPL, the Indian team will get an opportunity to collectively gather and prepare for the T20 World Cup.
However, Harbhajan Singh believes that due to the gap between the IPL schedule and the T20 World Cup, questions arise over the team’s preparation. “I think with this IPL schedule, it is very difficult to get everyone together to play a few matches. But yes, we have two games in the US before the tournament starts,” he said.
Even before this, Harbhajan Singh had demanded to play around 4-5 matches before the start of the tournament for the preparation of the team. He strongly demanded a gap of 10-15 days between the IPL and other major ICC events like the World Test Championship or the World Cup, to which;
Harbajan Singh said on Star Sports:
“Yes, I believe it would have been better for them to play 4-5 matches, you know collectively in the US against a top team like England or Australia, just to get used to those conditions. But it doesn’t feel like that But now, whatever small window we have, in those two games, we have to make the best of it going forward, when you are playing a tournament like the World Cup or the WTC, the team should do that. Play together for 10-15 days, it will be better.”
On this challenging occasion, the Indian Cricket Board needs to prepare the right time table for the preparation of the players. With special attention being paid to the preparation for the T20 World Cup, it is also important to give proper time and opportunity to the players.
Meanwhile, we have to see how the Indian cricket team faces this challenge and how it improves its preparation. At this point, only time will tell how the Indian players convert this opportunity into their own.
