ODI World Cup: A big transfer is going to happen in Indian cricket, as revealed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah. He told that the advertisement for the appointment of the new head coach will be issued soon, which means that there is a possibility of the end of Rahul Dravid’s authority.

Rahul Dravid had served as the head coach of the Indian team since November 2021. They got the rights after the 2023 ODI World Cup, but their rights expire in June. According to senior board officials, the chances of extension are slim, and the search for a new coach will begin soon.
Dravid had signed an extension as the head coach of the Indian team along with his support staff, but the new contract was valid only till June 2024. BCCI secretary Jay Shah made it clear that there will be no automatic extension this time, and if Dravid wishes, he will have to reapply.
BCCI official has dismissed the possibility of appointing a foreign coach, saying the decision will depend on the CSC. Jay Shah made it clear that the possibility of appointing separate coaches for the Indian team and for other formats is unlikely.
Apart from this, there is also discussion regarding the impact player rule. Many international stars are criticizing about this rule, the most famous name of which is Rohit Sharma. Jay Shah said he plans to discuss the matter with stakeholders, and they will decide if this rule needs to continue.
BCCI officials said discussions will be held with stakeholders before taking a decision on the continuation of the impact player rule. This rule can hinder the development of all-rounders, so it is being considered.
“We cannot decide whether the new coach will be an Indian or a foreigner. It will depend on the CAC and we are a global body,” the BCCI official said.
Now, an important question is what will Rahul Dravid do. We will have to wait to see whether he will be given the reins to remain as head coach, or whether a new leadership will take over the job. From the BCCI side, the search for a new coach will start soon, and it is time for fans to get excited about the new journey of Indian cricket.
