IPL betting racket exposed in Haryana “Gurugram” Sector 9
According to police officials, the raid was conducted late Monday night, when the suspects were actively engaged in betting on the match between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals.
The four arrested are Ravi Kumar (28) and Pravesh Ram (27) from Rewari, and Amit Kumar (29) and Sandeep Kumar (30) from Bhiwani.
Law enforcement officials recovered fifteen mobile phones, laptops and other suspicious objects from their possession.
Police investigators revealed that the suspects were coordinating with multiple people in different states and even abroad through phone calls and WhatsApp communication. Ravi and Pravesh were identified as the masterminds of the racket operating out of Gurugram.
The house where they were carrying out the illegal activities had been rented a month earlier specifically to run a betting operation. Police have found out that these suspects had maintained a wide network of WhatsApp groups on their phones.
Gurugram Police Public Relations Officer, Sandeep Kumar revealed that the action was taken based on a tip-off received by the Sector-39 Crime Branch unit regarding suspicious persons carrying laptops and other devices.
The police are trying to find out the bank account details linked to the illegal operations.
