MI have had a disappointing performance so far in this IPL 2024 season, and have no chances of reaching the playoffs. The team’s ultimate aim now is to avoid finishing at the bottom of the points table by defeating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their last match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday. Apart from this, they also have to hope that Punjab Kings (PBKS) do not win their last match.
According to reports, the differences between former captain Rohit Sharma and current captain Hardik Pandya have grown so much that it has created two camps in the MI dressing room. MI’s Indian players are in favor of making Rohit the captain again, while the foreign players are supporting Hardik.
MI had decided to bring back Hardik from Gujarat Titans and then replaced Rohit as captain at the beginning of the season, for which they had to face the wrath of the fans.
According to a report by Dainik Jagran
Former South African captain AB de Villiers has criticized Hardik’s captaincy. De Villiers said Hardik’s “chest-out” leadership style could work with younger and less experienced players, but could cause problems with established players like Rohit, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah.
On the other hand, Australian player Tim David has praised Hardik, calling him the “glue” of the team, who binds the team together and allows players to play with freedom.
The impact of the strained relationship between Rohit and Hardik has also been seen on the team’s preparation. According to reports, Rohit and Hardik have rarely practiced together in this IPL.
The form of both Rohit and Hardik is also a matter of concern. While Hardik has had his worst season with the bat, Rohit has also seen a huge decline in form in the second half of the tournament. If this rift between Hardik and Rohit continues to be the case, there is a possibility of a massive change in the MI set-up with the mega auction scheduled for next year.
Due to all these incidents, MI fans and cricket lovers are looking at this season as a big lesson for the team, in which it is necessary to focus not only on the performance of the players but also on their mutual relationships.
