The team’s leading fast bowler Mathiesha Pathirana has recently suffered a hamstring injury, due to which he is returning to Sri Lanka.

Pathirana’s performance was excellent this season, where he took 13 wickets at an economy rate of just 7.68. His absence is likely to impact Chennai Super Kings’ bowling significantly, especially when the team has already lost an experienced player like Deepak Chahar.
Chahar also suffered a hamstring strain during the game against Punjab Kings.
Pathirana took to his social media handle and posted a picture of himself posing with MS Dhoni in a signed CSK jersey.
“Thank you Mahi Bhai for everything. It was a special feeling to share the same dressing room with a legendary player like you. Thank you for always believing in me. I will keep those things in mind while appreciating your valuable suggestions. Looking forward to meeting and playing with you again soon.”
The news of Pathirana’s injury has caused a wave of disappointment among the team’s fans and management.
Team captain, MS Dhoni said, “Pathirana’s departure is a big loss for us. He had strengthened the team in many matches with his bowling this season. We will miss him, but we hope he gets back well soon.”
The team’s coach, Stephen Fleming also reacted to the situation,
“This season has been full of challenges for us. Injuries have always been a part of the game, but injuries to players like Pathirana and Chahar have been a big challenge for us. We need to develop young players. But we have to trust and give them a chance.”
It has now become even more important for Chennai Super Kings to strategize in the upcoming matches. The team will have to rely on its depth and the ability of its young players to make this season successful.
