Actually, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team suffered a humiliating 7-wicket defeat at the hands of Punjab Kings on Wednesday. The biggest reason behind this defeat was the injury to the players and the absence of some.
CSK coach Stephen Fleming, while speaking to the media after the match, explained how the squad has been reduced to the minimum. He told that the condition of Deepak Chahar’s injury is not looking good, but the team management is expecting better results from the medical team after detailed analysis.

“Deepak Chahar doesn’t look good. The initial feeling was not good. So we are waiting for more positive reports. The physio and the doctor will see. The Sri Lankan boys have left for the visa. Even uncapped Indian fast bowler Tushar Deshpande has contracted flu, the CSK coach revealed.
“Tushar Deshpande came down with flu, so we had to make some changes today, which is a bit unusual. But again that’s part of it and we have the resources. It’s just that they got time to get comfortable with their roles and us.” CSK coach Fleming said, “Let’s be comfortable with the game plan we are playing.”

Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad also admitted that the absence of some star players is a big blow to the team. He said, “It’s a real problem (missing players due to injuries and Chahal getting out in the first over), there are stages where you want wickets but you only have two bowlers, the dew has hit the spinners. It was tough, but there are still four matches left and we will try to get back to winning ways.”
Chennai Super Kings are now placed fourth in the IPL 2024 points table with 5 wins from four matches, but without the support of some star players, the final match may be difficult for them.
