Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel Get BCCI Central Contracts after Fulfilling Criteria

Young stars of the last test series against England get rewarded with BCCI Central contracts.

The BCCI board for cricket in India has just conveyed a list of the two young players, who are named Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel, to the category of the central contract players. The selection, approved at the BCCI Top Council meeting, on 18th of March 2024, follows the superb play of the duo in the recent Test series against England.

Jurel and Khan who were new on the team for the third match in Rajkot, were central figures in India’s 4-1 triumph in the series. It was just the beginning of the sensational run by Khan as he scored fifties in both innings of his very first game. Then the next match Jurel (a wicket-keeper batsman) batted also perfectly with his 46.

Khan and Jurel, who both made their Test debuts against England as part of the series that just concluded, have been classified as Group C of the BCCI’s central contract system. On selling it(yearly retainer) annually amount of value of one crore rupees per year(approximately $122,000 USD).

Fulfilling the Criteria for BCCI Central contracts

The BCCI central contracts are classified into various grades (A, B, and C) with the annual retainership fee that are paid in the different amounts. In order to be qualified with a central contract, a player has to satisfy criteria that the board has set. This criterion also has other aspects, such as having played in at least three Tests during the current season.

Since Khan and Jurel had represented England in the three-match series, they had come of age as automatic candidates. Their strong performances strengthened the fact that they deserved to be part of it all.

BCCI sends central contracts depending on specific criteria where both Khan and Jurel passed the condition of 3 tests in the season.While, khan’s outstanding of half-centuries across three matches was dazzled by his innings and Jurel played a crucial role in India winning at Ranchi with a match-winning knock of 90.

The fact that both players have been able to showcase their talent is quite a milestone for them. The BCCI central contract allows financial support and recognition for domestic performers, who have moved forward to the international level. Furthermore, it also means that the BCCI regard them as really talented and, thus, they can become long-term stars of the Indian cricket team.
