RCB Bowler Reece Topley Doubtful for IPL 2024 due to Injury

RCB Bowler Injury | Reece Topley | Reece Topley Ruled Out

Due to an injury that kept him out of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) seamer Reece Topley is unlikely to play for the team in the forthcoming 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Without Topley, RCB’s bowling arsenal isn’t the same, and their tournament approach is a mystery.

Reece Topley’s PSL Setback:

Both RCB and Reece Topley’s PSL club, Multan Sultans, took a major hit when Topley hurt himself. Although the specifics of Topley’s injury are still unknown, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has effectively removed him from the upcoming PSL, which begins on February 17, due to their unwillingness to issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC). Multan Sultans are missing a vital cog in their bowling lineup with Topley out injured.

Poor Injury History:

Topley has a history of injury problems and has struggled with fitness issues overall. His string of bad luck continues with his injury at the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, his exclusion from the 2022 T20 World Cup, and the upcoming 2023 Indian Premier League. Since the left-arm seamer’s season was cut short after just one match owing to injury, RCB’s acquisition of Topley for 1.90 crore in 2023 did not produce substantial rewards.

Before suffering an injury, Reece Topley was a member of the Durban Super Giants and competed in the SA20 League 2024. Topley showed his skill by taking 12 wickets in 10 matches, but his team lost in the final to Sunrisers Easter Cape, coached by Aiden Markram. His worth as a competent T20 bowler was demonstrated by his ability to provide pivotal breakthroughs.

Issues with RCB’s Bowling Lineup:

The setback to Topley has only added to RCB’s worries over their bowling lineup. In 2023, the team spent a hefty 1.90 crore to get Topley, but he was injured and couldn’t play in even one match. Tom Curran, another RCB addition, is out injured before the 2024 IPL, further reducing the team’s bowling options.

Job Duties of Alzarri Joseph:

During the 2024 Indian Premier League auction, RCB signed West Indian fast bowler Alzarri Joseph to try to strengthen their bowling attack. RCB’s roster would be severely lacking without Joseph, because to his aggressive speed and impressive IPL record. His versatility as a bowler and his knack for taking key wickets in the latter overs give RCB more choices.

It will be difficult for RCB’s management to keep the bowling quality of the squad high in 2024 IPL without Topley and Curran. Fans and pundits alike are worried about RCB’s strategy and recruiting choices in light of the loss of two important bowlers. In order to successfully handle the bowling problems, management should look into other possibilities and make backup plans.
