An exciting match of IPL 2024 was played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The match was between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and there was no dearth of controversy and drama in it.
Chasing a tough target of 223 runs against KKR, Virat looked in good form, hitting two sixes and a four off Rana and Mitchell Starc.
Meanwhile, the peak moment of the match came when RCB’s star player Virat Kohli, who had excited the audience by batting fast in the beginning of the match.
Virat directly stopped a ball from bowler Harshit Rana, which was being seen as a beamer. He had appealed to consider this ball as no ball but the on-field umpire declared it out. Who showed anger on the field due to a controversial dismissal.
After which Virat directly indicated for DRS review. However, based on television replays, third umpire Michael Gough determined that the ball had fallen well below Virat’s waist, so he was given out.
Virat’s dismissal made the atmosphere of the game tense. Virat was seen fuming on the field, and he hit a dustbin with his gloves while walking to the dugout, as a symbol of his displeasure.
After this incident the course of the match changed to some extent. RCB captain Faf du Plessis tried to control his team, but Virat’s early dismissal proved costly for the team. KKR players performed well and chased the target successfully in the end.
Virat’s performance and the controversy over his out was also discussed by commentator Navjot Sidhu. He said that Virat should have been given the advantage and his delivery should have been called a ‘no ball’.
The match ended with KKR’s victory, but Virat’s behavior and the controversy over out remained the main discussion of this match.
