Ashwin Interview: When LGS captain KL Rahul’s dream debut came in IPL 2013, why Virat Kohli said not an option, just…
Rahul recalled, “Virat was there, coach Ray Jennings and other support staff were also there and Virat just said, ‘Would you like to sign this contract and play for RCB?’ I said, ‘Are you kidding? I had the same dream.’ And then he said, ‘I’m just kidding, it’s not an option, just sign this contract.’ I signed and Virat said, ‘It’s going to be a crazy journey, you’re going to have a lot of fun in the next two months,'”
After this, while talking about his initial days in the team, he said, “The first two weeks are like you are in a dream world.”
He further added, “It took me two or three games to calm my nerves and feel okay, now I am part of the team. Players also have their own process, it’s not like you are welcomed into the team with a red carpet, and everyone there pats you on the back and tells you to calm down and relax. Nothing like that happens. Everyone is liking to do their work. ,
Talking about what he has learned so far from RCB, he said, “The things I learned in those two months (at RCB), I mean it probably took me more time to become a player just by playing Ranji Trophy. ” This is season 7-8. In those two months in the IPL, I gained a lot of knowledge and experience, and everything moved forward rapidly. That’s the beauty of the IPL and what impact it has had on players like me and many players who came after them.”
