Bumrah guiding new generation of Indian fast bowlers
“You don’t try to teach too much. That’s something I have learnt,” Bumrah said. He also said it is important for youngsters to know their way around without being burdened with excessive information.
Bumrah, who will be a key player for India in the T20 World Cup starting in New York on Saturday, also said he is guiding young bowlers who are relatively inexperienced.
“Because (some) things will go my way. (some) things won’t go my way,” he said, offering his advice.
“All these things will be part of my process. So I have just realised that I have started playing this game because I love this game and I will focus on that rather than the end result.
“That’s how you take the pressure off. And you enjoy the game when you focus on those things and not on things you can’t control,” he added.
Bumrah has 74 T20 International wickets, which puts him third on India’s all-time list. He is considered the best among current international fast bowlers.
Regarding this, Bumrah said that his consistent yorker balls are the result of years of practice. “I played a lot of tennis-ball, rubber-ball cricket when I was growing up. I used to play a lot in summer camps with my friends,” he said.
Bumrah further added, “I used to think that this is the only way to take wickets because I was a fan of fast bowling. I was really fascinated by what I saw on television. So I tried to replicate that. Is it (tennis-ball cricket) a secret (to bowl a yorker) or not? I don’t know.”
“But repetition is definitely there. Because I have kept this delivery. I still practise it. I keep practising it. Because whatever skill you develop, you have to practise it and make it stronger. So I think a combination of both will be the answer,” he concluded.
