There is excitement for the ongoing T20 World Cup, but till now the stadiums have not been filled with the noise and excitement that is usually seen to increase the interest of cricket fans. Due to various reasons like high price of tickets and other problems, the festive atmosphere has not been created in the stadiums yet.
Despite this, Indian coach Rahul Dravid is hopeful that there will be plenty of fans during their group matches. India will play three of its four group matches against Ireland, Pakistan and USA in New York, while its last league match against Canada will be in Florida.
Head coach Rahul Dravid said about practicing
“Having the World Cup in a new country and a new place is a bit different and exciting. Things are very different in terms of excitement because cricket is not one of the major sports in the country,” the team’s head coach Rahul Dravid said before the match. Hopefully, when we have our matches, the Indian fans will bring the same kind of enthusiasm.”
Along with this, the preparation of Indian players has also been shown well. All of the team’s players are training at Cantiag Park, which is located in Hicksville. Dravid admitted that it was a bit strange to train in a public park but insisted that training at Cantiague Park was an enjoyable experience.
“But what we wanted from practice is not the way we practice or the professional attitude we adopt in terms of looking at things, it is the same as what we normally do. It is a bit strange that we are practicing in a park, whereas during other events we practice in a cricket stadium. But here we are practicing in a public park, which has been a lot of fun. But it is something new and exciting to experience,” he said.
India will take the field against Ireland in their first match on June 5 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. The team has three opening options in the form of captain Rohit Sharma, young Yashasvi Jaiswal and the charismatic Virat Kohli, who to choose between them has become a topic of intense discussion in the cricket world.
Regarding this, Rahul Dravid said, “Our training sessions have been very good and there is an environment of enthusiasm and support in our team. We are definitely ready to elevate our game and enter the competition responsibly.”
