The main reason for this appointment is the end of Rahul Dravid’s tenure after the Indian T20 team’s World Cup 2024 victory.
Gambhir has been striving for a long time to lead the team successfully and now he has got this opportunity of responsibility as the head coach.
Gambhir’s first challenge will be the upcoming T20 and ODI series against Sri Lanka, in which he will have to work rigorously to ensure the performance of the team.
However, one downside of this appointment is that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), whom Gambhir coached in IPL 2024, will have to deviate from their mentor.
Even now it has come in the news that Gambhir’s assistant coach Abhishek Nair may also join the coaching staff of the Indian team, as a result of which KKR is thinking of changing its coaching staff for its upcoming season 2025.
Before Gambhir was chosen to replace Dravid, it was certain that former South African captain and coach Jacques Kallis would also be a candidate. His name has also been in the news for KKR’s replacement, as he has led the team to significant success during his time there.
Kallis captained KKR during his playing days and his coaching consultancy helped the team win three IPL titles. After his stint, he is now sharing his experience with the South African cricket team as a batting consultant.
With Gautam Gambhir being the new head coach of the Indian cricket team, there are also talks of finding a new coach for KKR, which also includes the name of Jacques Kallis.
At this point, the door has opened for a new era to begin for Indian cricket, with these new coaches set to begin their new era.
