IPL 2024 has created a new history for Kolkata Knight Riders, when they proved their dominance this season and became champions for the third time. This victory was very important for them, especially after the return of their new coach Gautam Gambhir.
Gambhir took the team to new heights with his brilliant captaincy, and his top stars also gave him full support. He strengthened the team’s strategies and his excellent performance on the field won the hearts of the people.
Gautam Gambhir has retired from captaincy after his return to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for IPL 2024. Gambhir had led KKR to victory twice in 2012 and 2014 when he was the captain of the team. This time, he led the team to success in the capacity of a mentor.
Now Gambhir is ready to start a new phase of his career as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team.
On Gambhir’s departure, KKR head coach Chandrakant Pandit said,
“We had a good rapport. We used to discuss team strategies and plan with the captain. Gambhir will now be very happy with his appointment as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. He has been playing an important role in KKR’s success for the last few years.”
He further said, “We are very happy with Gambhir being appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. I am sure he will do a great job, as he has been doing for the last few years.
He has been important for KKR’s success for the last few years and he also played a big role in India winning the World Cup in 2007 (T20I) and 2011 (ODI). He has a lot of experience and is definitely the right choice. I am really happy for BCCI.”
Apart from this, he said, “Yesterday I messaged him, congratulated him. This is a prestigious job and he is going to play a prestigious role for our country. Obviously, I was very happy to message him. He also messaged me.”
Along with this, there are reports of the departure of KKR’s backroom staff member Abhishek Nair.
Pandit said on this, “Abhishek Nair has done a great job with KKR in the last few years. His contribution has been important for the team.”
Gambhir said about his appointment as the head coach of the Indian cricket team,
“This is a prestigious job and I will try my best to enhance my role in it. I am looking forward to working closely with all the players and teammates here.
Gambhir’s decision has come as a big shock to the KKR team and their fans, but this prestigious job of his joining the Indian cricket team has given him a chance to take it to a new level.
