This year, cricketer-turned-commentator Ricky Ponting has a busy schedule. The legendary Australian batsman, though, intends to coach for the Washington Freedom in the Major Cricket League 2024 (MLC 2024). The ICC T20 World Cup and the IPL 2024 will keep Ricky Ponting very busy.
The 2024 Indian Premier League will run from March to May. The Delhi Capitals’ head coach, Ricky Ponting, will lead the club throughout the competition. Later on, Ponting will also serve as a pundit for the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, which starts in the USA and the West Indies on June 4.

America (USA) is home to the Major Cricket League, a franchise T20 competition. The inaugural season of the T20 event took place last year. In July of this year, MLC 2024, the second edition, will take place. A few IPL franchises have entered the competition with their own teams and invested as well.
In MLC 2024, Ricky Ponting intends to coach the Washington Freedom
Former Australia captain Ricky Pointing revealed that he is in talks to become a coach for the Washington Freedom team for the Major Cricket League 2024 season when speaking with Australia SEN Radio. He did, however, add that nothing is currently verified.
“We’re not there yet, I haven’t committed to anything just yet, but I’ve had some initial discussions. The time of the year sort of fits in okay for me, but I’ve got a really hectic off-season again. When I say off-season, there’s no such thing as an off-season for cricketers anymore”, who guided Australia to two ODI World Cup championships in 2003 and 2007.

The Australian representative from 1995 to 2012, Ricky Ponting, also mentioned how difficult it will be to juggle the MLC season with his role as a commentator for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Remarkably, MLC 2024 will start a week following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup. Ponting did, however, add that he would adore the Major Cricket League coaching position.
“It’s potentially another big year of time away if I want it, so there are things I’ve got to work through. If I’m actually going to be commentating in the T20 World Cup or not and if I’m not doing that, where does MLC fit in?”, the 49-year-old said.
“I love the coaching side of it. I love working with the best players in the world and trying to find a way to make them better, and winning some games along the way,” the former right-handed batsman further said.
Washington Freedom ended up in 3rd place last season
The Washington Freedom placed third in the Major League Cricket’s most recent points standings. They made it to the playoffs, but MI New York defeated them in the elimination round. To win the title, the latter finally defeated Seatle Orcas in the championship match. The Major Cricket League has six teams.
