Ruturaj Gaikwad was appointed as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings just one day before the start of the tournament. Fans were expecting that MS Dhoni would keep leading the side till his retirement but Gaikwad was appointed as the captain of CSK before the start of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League. 

CSK recently secured a massive win over KKR in their last game in which Gaikwad played an impressive innings of 67 runs in 58 deliveries and during the post-match interview, he opened up about the decision of the appointment of the new captain for the franchise. 

MS Dhoni told Gaikwad to be ready to lead the side

Ruturaj Gaikwad said that the former captain of the side, Dhoni has already told him during a practice session in 2022 that he should prepare himself to lead the side not possible from the very next season but from the IPL 2024. 

Gaikwad already knew that he would be leading the side in the upcoming time and hence he closely observed Dhoni in his leadership role and always tried to learn from him as much as possible. Even after becoming the captain of the side, Gaikwad keeps communicating with Dhoni regarding the fielding positions and the decisions related to DRS etc.

CSK has secured 3 wins in 5 contests

Under the captaincy of Ruturaj Gaikwad, CSK started their campaign with a satisfying win against RCB in the season’s opener and as of now the side has clinched three victories in five matches and is currently placed in the fourth position in the table. Rajasthan Royals are the table toppers with 4 victories in 4 matches followed by Kolkata Knight Riders with 3 victories in 5 contests.

The performance of the Chennai Super Kings has been good under the captaincy of a new captain however the upcoming contests will be very crucial for the side as CSK will try their best to clinch more victories to improve their standings in the points table. 

After playing a crucial innings for the side, Gaikwad revealed that when the side was chasing a total of 140 runs, the only thing which was there in his mind was to stay on the crease till the end and he followed the same strategy. It doesn’t matter whether he’s a captain or not, it’ll not have any impact on his performance with the bat.
