Despite the World Cup being over, no new head coach has been appointed yet, hampering the team’s preparations for the upcoming series.
Temporarily playing the role of head coach
VVS Laxman, who heads the National Cricket Academy (NCA), is temporarily playing the role of head coach. He has already prepared the Indian team to play against Zimbabwe, where he has been entrusted with the responsibility of handling the team.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already interviewed Gautam Gambhir and WV Raman and is expected to choose one of them as the new head coach.
However, the name of the new coach is yet to be announced, as the ongoing talks between the board and Gambhir over salary and other matters have not been decided yet.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that the decision to appoint a new coach will be taken after the Sri Lanka series. Before that, the board will also have to consider appointing Gambhir as an assistant coach.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah had earlier said,
“The appointments of both the coach and the selector will be made soon. The CAC has interviewed and shortlisted two names and whatever they have decided after reaching Mumbai, we will go according to it. VVS Laxman is going to Zimbabwe, but the new coach will join the Sri Lanka series.”
Along with Rahul Dravid, the coaching tenure of his staff has also ended, which includes batting coach Vikram Rathore, bowling coach Paras Mahambre and fielding coach T Dilip. Now after the appointment of Gambhir, the board will also have to work to appoint the rest of the coaches.
It has been told in this news that the board is planning to give Gambhir full freedom as selection assistant staff with good discounts and other grants.
Apart from this, the appointment of batting coach is also being looked into but due to Gambhir’s own qualifications and experience, this is also being given consideration.
