The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has moved quickly in the search for the new head coach of its men’s national cricket team. Rahul Dravid’s contract is about to expire after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2024, due to which preparations are being made to fill the vacant position.
Many credible names have been mentioned for this, such as Ricky Ponting, Justin Langer, Stephen Fleming and Andy Flower.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India will have to pay attention to this important decision as the selection of the head coach is extremely important for the future of the team. Be it Rahul Dravid or anyone else, this decision should be taken carefully and rationally so that it can help in taking Indian cricket to new heights.
Meanwhile, the name of another candidate has emerged, which is very special. This is former South African captain AB de Villiers. He admitted that coaching, as a job profile, is attractive to De Villiers, but he is not ready to fill the huge void left by Dravid in the Indian team at the moment.
De Villiers told News 18, about head coach
“I don’t know at all. I think I would enjoy coaching. I think there are some elements that I wouldn’t enjoy as much that I would have to learn. With time, anything is possible and I I can think on my feet and learn as I go.”
De Villiers stressed that “coaching motivates them, but they also realize what they want to do and what they don’t. “But I think there are certain elements of a coaching job that I would really enjoy. The things that I have learned over the years, the maturity that I have gained at the age of 40, when I look back at my career, When I look at it, a lot of things seem very clear. So that kind of learning can be valuable for some of the younger players, even for some of the senior players.”
Although De Villiers wants to get into coaching, he does not feel the time is right for him to take up the role of head coach of the Indian team.
He added, “And I would love to work with some players and some teams in that regard. As a full-time head coach, it’s not something that comes to my mind right now. It’s not something that really Attracts me now. But like I said, things may change later on.”
This ideology makes it clear that De Villiers is moving towards coaching, but he is not yet completely ready to work as the head coach of the Indian team. Despite this, he is hopeful that such situation may change in the times to come and if possibilities arise, he will be ready to handle this responsibility.
