Now the question is, will Surya shake hands again in the next match or will the same drama continue? A report made a big revelation.
The match took place in Dubai, where India stopped Pakistan at 127/9. But the real drama started with the toss. Suryakumar ignored the handshake to Pakistan captain Salman Aga.
As soon as the match ended, Surya and Shivam Dubey went straight to the dressing room, without any post-match handshake. The Pakistan team stood outside, but India closed the door. This scene went viral on social media.
What is in the reports?
Reports are saying that all this was in support of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. Surya dedicated the victory to the Armed Forces at the award ceremony and showed solidarity with the victims.
When the journalist asked if this was against sportsmanship, Surya clearly said,
“there are “a few things in life greater than sportsmanship.”
Meaning, some things are above sports!
Now the bombshell report – According to India Today, Surya’s handshake boycott will continue if the two teams clash again in the Super Four.
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) also did not impose any sanction, because it is not against the rules.
Pakistan infuriated and skipped the post-match presentation, and the PCB complained to the ICC to remove match referee Andy Pycroft.
But the ICC with Jai Shah is likely to reject it. On top of that, the PCB suspended its International Operations Director Usman Wahala because he could not take ‘timely action’ on the handshake controversy.
Former cricketer Madan Lal told ANI,
“…this is their decision. The reason he gave for not shaking hands was that we stand with the victims of Pahalgam. I think terrorism and sports cannot go together. But after all, it is a game, and you played and won. This was your best answer.”
India has qualified for the Super Four, Pakistan can come after defeating UAE. If the match happens again, will Surya shake hands? The report says, no! This boycott will continue.
By the way, Surya clarified that this was not his personal decision, but came from above from BCCI and the government. Pakistan coach Mike Hesson also complained that India deliberately avoided the handshake.
