Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar has said that Virat Kohli should have continued as Test captain for a longer period of time.
Bangar pointed out that India won many important victories under Kohli’s captaincy and his absence is being felt by the team.
Virat Kohli resigned from the Test captaincy in January 2022, while he was removed from the limited-overs captaincy after the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Soon after Kohli’s tenure as Test captain came to an end, India suffered a Test series defeat against South Africa which sent ripples across the cricketing world. Rohit Sharma replaced him as captain and the team has performed well in all formats.
“Virat Kohli should have stayed longer as Test captain”, Why Ex batting coach Sanjay Bangar Said ?
“My personal opinion is that Virat Kohli should have stayed on for longer as Test captain. He captained India in 65 Test matches and under his captaincy, India performed well overseas as well.”
Bangar lauded Kohli’s fitness and hard work, saying he has taken the team to great heights and led India to many historic victories.
According to him, Kohli’s contribution to captaincy is unforgettable and he is being missed.
Kohli has led India in 68 Tests, winning 40 and losing 17. Under his captaincy, India won Test series against Australia and West Indies.
