Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has criticised the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) inadequate preparation ahead of the upcoming Test series against Australia.
Gavaskar rued that only a two-day warm-up game would be played against the Australian Prime Minister’s XI, which should be extended to three days.
The Indian team has performed brilliantly in the last two tours of Australia and will be hoping for another series win in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India’s first Test will be held in Perth from November 22-26, and a day-night Test match will also be played in Adelaide.
Sunil Gavaskar questions BCCI’s preparation
Gavaskar said the BCCI’s move was a “very disappointing sign” for Indian cricket. He said the short warm-up game will not give the Indian players enough time to prepare properly for the upcoming Test series.
“The news that the touring teams’ regular match against the Australian Prime Minister’s XI has been reduced to 2 days is disappointing,” Gavaskar wrote.”
Gavaskar’s advice
Sunil Gavaskar has requested the BCCI to extend the practice match against Prime Minister’s XI by three days. He said that this will benefit the young and inexperienced Indian players more and they will be better prepared for the upcoming series against Australia.
“The Australians are desperate for revenge and the Indians will have to be very quick to make a hat-trick of series wins there. There is still time to turn this into a 3-day game and give the young inexperienced players a better chance to succeed against the world Test champions. BCCI, you can do it.”
Gavaskar’s advice indicates that the Indian team needs to be better and more prepared to maintain its position of strength against Australia.
