Fans are already upset with Pakistan’s batting performance in the Asia Cup 2025, and now legendary Indian player Sunil Gavaskar has also taken a dig at them.

During yesterday’s match against Bangladesh, Gavaskar said that Pakistan’s best batsman is probably Shaheen Afridi.
This made everyone laugh, as Shaheen is a fast bowler, not a batsman. However, this comment was meant to mock the collapse of Pakistan’s top order.
Gavaskar said, “Shaheen Afridi is probably the best batsman of the Pakistan team.”
He made this comment during commentary, which went viral on social media.
The Complete Story of Pakistan’s Batting
Pakistan’s Asia Cup 2025 campaign didn’t go well. They lost two matches to India, then defeated Sri Lanka, but played a do-or-die game against Bangladesh. In yesterday’s match, Pakistan batted first and scored only 135 runs.
Openers Sahibzada Farhan and Sam Ayub were dismissed early. Fakhar Zaman and Hussain Talat also didn’t last long.
In the middle order, Mohammad Haris made 31 and Mohammad Nawaz made 25, otherwise the score would have been even lower.
Shaheen Afridi was sent in at number 7, where he scored a quick 19 runs, but was caught by Taskin Ahmed. This prompted Gavaskar to comment that Shaheen seemed to be their best batsman.
On the other hand, Shaheen performed brilliantly with the ball, giving away just 11 runs in three overs with the new ball and dismissing two Bangladesh openers. He is now Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker, with a total of 8 wickets.
Haris Rauf has 7 wickets. However, Sam Ayub’s fourth duck with the bat was a loss, embarrassing even PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi.
Taskin Ahmed took 3 wickets to give Bangladesh the win.
Gavaskar’s sarcasm and Pakistan’s final dream
Gavaskar’s trolling comment left Pakistan’s batsmen red-faced. Shaheen scored 33 not out in the death overs against India in the first match, hitting four sixes. But the top batsmen are failing.
Had Pakistan defeated Bangladesh, they would have faced India for the third time in the final. But the defeat ended their journey.
Shaheen’s bowling tried to save the team, but his batting weakness ruined everything.
