In this video, they pretended to limp on the song ‘Tauba-Tauba’, which was allegedly aimed at showing the effect of playing too much cricket on their bodies.
This video generated controversy as many people saw it as mocking disabled people and called it an insult.
Arman Ali, Executive Director of the National Council for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), filed a complaint calling it an ‘insult’ to more than 10 crore disabled people in India.
Ali said, “When I saw the video of Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, in which they were pretending to be disabled, a kind of joke on a viral song, I think it is an insult to more than 10 crore disabled people of India.”
Harbhajan Singh deleted the video and apologized on social media to resolve the controversy.
He also said that his intention was not to hurt anyone, but it was made in jest. Both sides have different opinions in this matter.
At the same time, in another post from Harbhajan Singh, he said,
“I just wanted to make it clear to our people who are complaining about our recent video of Tauba Tauba on social media after winning the championship in England. We did not want to hurt anyone’s feelings. We respect every person and community. And this video was just to reflect our body after playing cricket continuously for 15 days. Sore bodies.. We are not trying to insult or offend anyone.. Still if people feel we have done something wrong.. That’s all I can say from my side. Sorry to all.. Please stop it here and move on. Stay happy and healthy. Love to all. Regards.”
The controversy has been a topic of heavy discussion on social media and more responsible steps are possible in the matter going forward.
