How much money does each team receive in the IPL auction?
The process also gives teams an opportunity to select players according to their budget, with each team being estimated to have a budget of Rs 100 crore.
In this auction, each team will be allowed to spend 30-40 percent of their budget on the top five players, which can strengthen their team and make them eligible for the upcoming season.
Moreover, as per the rules laid down, at least 75 per cent of the budget will have to be used on the players, which will be customized keeping in mind the different players and their skills.

IPL 2025 Mega auction officials statement
IPL officials said that some franchises can retain only six to eight players while others cannot. They lashed out against the proposed change, saying that it will be a major challenge against IPL.
According to Cricket Network, a veteran team official said that increasing the retention to 6 or 8 players and then holding the auction could hurt IPL fans. He said, “The auction is an important part of IPL and making it a useless exercise can make this important league unhealthy.”
The official also highlighted that it is a matter of research and dispute among various teams, but he made it clear that the number of IPL fans is not comparable to that of EPL.
The official said, “Yes, it is a matter of concern for many teams, but we cannot compare the number of fans in IPL to the number of fans of EPL clubs. It is still too early for this to happen in IPL. That is why it has happened with only a handful of teams in IPL. It will take time. And if there is desperation to do it, get rid of the auction and start a draft. Let there be a transfer system. Again, the auction brings a new flavour to the IPL.”
