Sam Curran’s explosive comeback
27-year-old all-rounder Sam Curran has finally got a chance in England’s T20 team. Sam last played for England in November 2024 and now he is ready to play under coach Brendon McCullum for the first time.
The reason for his comeback?
His brilliant performance in the T20 Blast and The Hundred! Sam scored 603 runs in 24 matches at a strike rate of 154.21 and also took 33 wickets. These numbers speak for themselves!
ECB said, “England Men have confirmed changes to the squads for the forthcoming Vitality IT20 series against South Africa and the subsequent IT20 series in Ireland.”
Why did Ben Duckett get a break?
On the other hand, Ben Duckett, who is one of England’s top batsmen in all-formats, has been in a bit of a slump in form.
Especially in the recent ODIs against South Africa, he could not do anything special. His scores in the first two ODIs were just 5 and 14 runs.
Stuart Broad also said, “I thought England looked a bit tired. Now they have lost this series I would be half-tempted to send Ben Duckett and Joe Root up the M1 (motorway to go home) rather than down to Southampton.”
ECB decided to give Ben a rest from the T20 series against South Africa so that he can be fresh before the tour of New Zealand and Australia. Jamie Smith and Phil Salt will open in his place.
What is the plan ahead?
The England team will play three T20 matches against South Africa on 10, 12 and 14 September. After this, there will be three T20 matches in Ireland on 17, 19 and 21 September. Sam Curran will be a part of both the series.
At the same time, Matthew Potts has been released from the Ireland series so that he can strengthen his claim for the Ashes by playing in the County Championship.
