The police have taken action and investigations are underway. Everyone is shocked to hear this news, because such disgusting cases are coming to light in a clean sport like cricket. Let’s see in detail what happened.
It all started in the month of June, when something went wrong in a pub in the South-West area of London.
The Telegraph Sport revealed that the man is above 40 years of age and Scotland Yard police questioned him.
No arrest has been made yet, but the matter is serious. The Metropolitan Police released its statement:
“It is alleged that two women were spiked, with one of them allegedly sexually assaulted. A man in his 40s was interviewed under caution on Thursday, June 5. Enquiries are ongoing and there has been no arrest at this stage.”
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has received the news of this investigation. The board is silent, but this is a big shock for them. Many such cases have come to light in the ECB in the past years.
Past incidents in ECB raise concerns
For example, in August, a coach was suspended for 9 months because he had sent sexual pictures to two women junior staff.
The name was hidden because there was a threat. In November, another coach was punished for 6 months for misbehavior on a pre-season tour.
These allegations are spoiling the image of England cricket. The team is currently busy preparing for the Ashes series against Australia.
Recently the series with India was drawn 2-2, but now this scandal is shaking everyone’s focus.
For now, we will have to wait till the investigation is completed. But one thing is certain, this dark side behind the shine of cricket is forcing everyone to think.
