Both have been dropped from the Asia Cup 2025 team, and now some people are saying that they should retire from international cricket.
But is their career really over, or is this just a bad phase?
What is the whole matter?
Former Pakistan fast bowler Tanvir Ahmed took a dig at Babar and Rizwan and said,
“My request to Babar Azam and Rizwan is that if you think you are not getting respect, then take retirement from international cricket. We have the example of Virat Kohli in front of us. @babarazam258, @iMRizwanPak, respect is in your hands.”
Tanvir says that if these two feel that they are not being respected, then they should retire like Virat Kohli.
But Tanvir’s statement seems wrong, because Virat left T20 cricket on his own will, not because of any insult.
At the same time, Pakistan legend Javed Miandad defended Babar.
He targeted the selection committee and said, “They don’t know whether they played cricket or not? The stars on which they played cricket are the ones selected by Babar Azam. What will they see in them?”
Miandad believes that Babar is a great player, and he needs support in difficult times.
Strike Rate question
The main reason for excluding Babar and Rizwan from the Asia Cup 2025 team is being said to be their low strike rate.
Babar scored 4223 runs in 128 T20 matches at a strike rate of 129.22, while Rizwan scored 3414 runs in 106 matches at a strike rate of 125.37.
New head coach Mike Hesson said that Babar will have to improve his game against spin.
On the other hand, young players like Salman Ali Agha, Sam Ayub and Hasan Nawaz are being given a chance, who are performing well consistently.
At present, this decision of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has surprised the fans of Babar and Rizwan.
Some believe that both of them can still make a comeback, as both have a great record.
