Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajiv Shukla has said that the Indian cricket team will not be sent to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy to be held next year, unless the central government gives its permission.
This announcement comes amid media reports which claim that India is not ready to play a cricket tournament between Pakistan. The main reason for this is the strained relations between India and Pakistan due to terrorist attacks.
BCCI Vice President said that something like this can happen only after the decision of the Indian Government. This decision regarding the ICC Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan from February to March next year will become extremely important.
Cricket relations between India and Pakistan have faced many obstacles since 2008. Earlier, there was a bilateral series between India and Pakistan in 2012–2013. But since then, both the teams have met only in the Asia Cup and ICC tournaments.
Speaking to ANI, Shukla said,
Shukla explained that the BCCI works as per the instructions of the Indian government, “In the case of the Champions Trophy, we will do whatever the Government of India asks us to do. We send our team only when the Government of India gives us permission. So we follow that.” Will proceed accordingly.” For the decision of the Government of India.”
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named Lahore as the sole venue for India’s matches for the Champions Trophy. Along with this, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that a draft schedule of the tournament has been sent to the ICC, which is likely to be held in mid-February next year. Participation of the Indian team will also be discussed in this.
