Former Pakistan fast bowler Abdur Rauf Khan has accused Indian cricket stars of playing a “double game”, and his anger has spread on social media.
What is the whole matter?
“What is this drama? In public they say we won’t play against Pakistan, but behind the scenes we hang out together, go shopping, party. This is totally unfair!” Rauf told the Times of India.
He was referring to Indian players like Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Shikhar Dhawan who share off-field friendship with Pakistani players but suddenly play the patriotism card when it comes to matches.
Rauf says this double standard is not good for cricket.
After the Pahalgam attack in April, cricketing relations between India and Pakistan cooled down. Indian players refused to play against Pakistan in the WCL this time, after which fans’ anger erupted on social media.
Shikhar Dhawan had already made it clear that he is adamant on his decision taken on May 11,
in which he said, “My country is everything for me, and I will not play against Pakistan.”
Fans’ hearts broken, Rauf’s anger erupted
Rauf said, “We shared dressing rooms together, ate food, did shopping on tour, spent time in each other’s hotel rooms. Then why do you show in public that we are enemies? This drama is not good for the fans.”
He believes that fans, who reach the stadium with full enthusiasm, should not be cheated like this. Rauf also added that cricket should be kept away from politics.
They want the ICC or the tournament organisers to create a system in which cricket can continue no matter what.
The WCL organisers apologised to the fans and Indian players and said that their intention was just to spread happiness but maybe they could not understand the feelings of the people.
