Preparations for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 have intensified, and this year’s retention list is becoming a major topic of discussion among cricket fans.
Some star players have been retained by their teams, while several big names have been released.

WPL 2026 Team-wise Retained Players
Mumbai Indians (MI)
Last season’s champions, Mumbai Indians, have retained their core players. Led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, the team has retained five players: Harmanpreet Kaur, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Amanjot Kaur, G Kamalini, and Hayley Matthews.
MI made no major changes to their core group. The team now has a remaining purse of ₹5.75 crore.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)
RCB has retained four players: Smriti Mandhana, Ellyse Perry, Richa Ghosh, and Shreyanka Patil. The team has expressed confidence in its batting order and experience.
RCB now has ₹6.15 crore and one RTM card left, allowing them to bring back any old player in the auction.
Delhi Capitals (DC)
Delhi has retained five players: Annabel Sutherland, Marizanne Kapp, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, and Niki Prasad.
Releasing Meg Lanning was a major blow to the team. DC now has ₹5.75 crore remaining.
Gujarat Giants (GG)
Gujarat retained only two players: Ashleigh Gardner and Beth Mooney.
The team released the remaining players, indicating it will form an entirely new team for the auction. GG has ₹9 crore and three RTM cards.
UP Warriors (UPW)
UPW has retained only one player, Shweta Sehrawat. The remaining key players have been released.
The team has ₹14.5 crore and four RTM cards, allowing them to make big bets in the auction.
WPL 2026 Retention Rules and Purse Details
The WPL 2026 mega auction will be held in Delhi on November 27, 2025. All teams are eyeing the big names released in this auction.

- The Right to Match (RTM) card allows a team to bring back a former player from the auction.
- Teams must field a squad of 16-18 players.
