Virat Kohli Opens Up After 135 in ODI Opener, Confirms No Test Comeback

Virat Kohli made a splash in the first match of the ODI series against South Africa. India defeated the Proteas comprehensively at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi, thanks to Virat’s brilliant century.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed early, scoring just 18 runs. But Virat came to the crease in the fourth over and took on the bowlers. He scored his 52nd ODI century off 102 balls, ultimately scoring 135 runs off 120 balls.

He smashed Nandre Burger with 11 fours and 7 sixes. The entire stadium erupted in excitement, and Virat received the Player of the Match award.

Virat breaks silence on Test comeback

In a conversation with Harsha Bhogle after the match, Virat clearly stated that he is not returning to Test cricket. Some reports talked about BCCI plans to bring back retired players, but Virat said, “I will only play one format: ODIs. That will continue until retirement.”

Fans were a little shocked, but Virat’s decision shows his focus. He scored 74* in the last Test match in Sydney, having previously made two ducks against Australia. But this time, he didn’t play slowly; he went straight into aggressive mode.

Virat also explained that his preparation is mostly mental. “I don’t believe in preparation. If you have physical fitness and mental sharpness, everything is fine. I took a day’s rest before the match. At 37, recovery is essential.”

Regarding the pitch, he said it was good for the first 20-25 overs, then slowed down, but he played with enjoyment. Experience paid off. “When you get a start, you know what to do.”

The Secret to Virat’s Fitness and Excitement

Virat further stated that having played over 300 matches, it’s clear whether his reflexes are good or not in practice. “Be physically fit, mentally prepared, and excited for the match, that’s the key. I definitely have the capacity to play long innings.”

This was especially enjoyable, as Virat has always been an inspiration. Playing this innings on MS Dhoni’s home ground in Ranchi was particularly enjoyable. Rohit Sharma also celebrated Virat’s century, and the entire team was filled with joy.

This series has given India a strong start. Virat’s performance shows that he is still at the top of his game.

If he maintains this form in the upcoming matches against South Africa, India will win the series.
