Indian cricket’s king, Virat Kohli, has once again made history. In a Vijay Hazare Trophy match for Delhi against Gujarat, Virat played a blistering innings of 77 runs off just 61 balls.

This innings helped Delhi win the match and propelled Virat to the top of a major record.
Virat breaks Michael Bevan’s long-standing record
This innings was special not only for the team but also for Virat’s career. Virat’s List A cricket average is now 57.87, surpassing the previous record held by Australia’s Michael Bevan, whose average was 57.86.
Bevan was considered one of the best finishers in ODI cricket, and his record had remained unbroken for many years. Among batsmen with at least 5000 runs, Virat is now number one.
Virat’s achievement is even more remarkable considering he is still performing at this level at the age of 37. He recently also completed 16,000 List A runs, becoming the first player to reach this milestone 61 innings faster than Sachin Tendulkar.
Virat’s sensational form in 2025
Virat’s bat has been on fire this year. His strike rate in List A matches has been above 110, demonstrating how well he has adapted to modern white-ball cricket. In his last six List A matches, Virat has scored 584 runs at an average of 146.
These innings include 77 against Gujarat, 131 against Andhra, an unbeaten 65 against South Africa, followed by 102 and 135 against South Africa again, and 74 against Australia.
Virat has now accumulated 16,207 runs in List A cricket, and his average is the highest. This record demonstrates Virat’s incredible consistency and his undiminished hunger for runs.
