Gill believes that if India has to make a comeback in the next Test, then the top order will have to take more responsibility.
Let’s know what is the whole matter!
Actually, in the first Test, India performed brilliantly with the bat. The top order scored runs in both the innings, but the lower order was a complete flop.
From 430 runs for 3 wickets in the first innings, the team collapsed after losing 7 wickets for 41 runs. In the second innings, after 340 runs for 4 wickets, they lost 6 wickets for 31 runs. Gill says that this situation is not good.
Lower order flop show
Gill clearly said in the press conference before the second Test in Birmingham, “There is always talk of failure of the lower order, but if the top order adds a little more runs, then this pressure can be reduced.”
Gill also questioned himself. He was out on Shoaib Bashir’s ball after scoring 147 runs.
He says, “If I had scored 50 more runs, maybe along with Rishabh Pant we would have knocked England out of the game.”
Gill also said that 80-100 runs are expected from the lower order, but in Leeds they could not even add 40 runs. Now India wants to rectify this mistake in Edgbaston.
Gill said laughingly, “If the top order takes responsibility, then there will not be so much pressure on the lower order.”
Spinners’ bet and Bumrah’s return
India is now thinking of changing the strategy. Considering the dry pitch, the team can go with two spinners. Washington Sundar or Kuldeep Yadav can get a chance along with Ravindra Jadeja
Jasprit Bumrah is also making a comeback, but to manage his workload, he may not be played in every match.
Gill said, “It was difficult to stop runs with the old ball. An extra spinner can control the run flow.”
