Under his captaincy, India drew the 5-Test series against England 2-2. Now the veteran Sunil Gavaskar has advised to make Gill the ODI captain, which has created a stir among cricket fans.

IND vs ENG: Gill’s performance
Gill spewed fire with the bat on the England tour. His innings of 269 runs in the Edgbaston Test became history.
Gavaskar praised him and said,
“He’s one of the most likable players in the team. He’s scoring hundreds. If he’s not satisfied with a hundred, he goes for a double hundred. If he’s not satisfied with a double hundred, he goes for a triple hundred. He scored 269 (at Edgbaston). He was showing that he cannot give up. He just wanted to stay there at the crease and make sure every run counts.”
This fighting innings of Gill saved India from defeat and helped them draw the series.
Will Gill become the ODI captain?
Gavaskar asked the selectors to make Gill the ODI captain.
He said, “Rohit and Kohli are available for ODIs. They haven’t been selected yet. These things will depend on the selection committee. When the ODI series against Australia or West Indies starts, if the selectors want, it would be the right time to bring Gill in.”
Rohit Sharma is currently the ODI captain, but Gavaskar believes that if the selectors want a new face, then Gill is the perfect choice.
India did wonders on the last day of the Oval Test. England needed only 35 runs to win, but Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna bowled brilliantly.
Siraj took 5 and Krishna took 4 wickets. England were all out for 354, and India won a thrilling victory. This victory gave India the third place in the World Test Championship.
Gill’s captaincy and batting won everyone’s heart. He is 25 years old, and he looks ready to lead the young team.
Gavaskar’s support and Gill’s excellent form can force the selectors to think.
