The West Indies team is currently stranded in India due to a major disruption in international flights.

Due to increased tensions in West Asia, many flights have been cancelled, delaying the return of the team’s players and support staff.
Meanwhile, West Indies spinner Akeal Hossein grabbed everyone’s attention with a humorous post on social media.
Post asking for Ronaldo’s help goes viral
West Indies spinner Akeal Hossein jokingly wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “At this point, I’m better off asking Cristiano Ronaldo to send a jet and come rescue me, yes?”
His post quickly went viral. Which was later deleted.
The players were attempting to return to their country from India after the completion of the T20 World Cup 2026, but the increased tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran in West Asia led to the closure of several airspaces.
This impacted international flights and resulted in the cancellation of several flights. According to reports, the West Indies team is currently in Kolkata. The team’s last match was against India, where they suffered a five-wicket defeat at Eden Gardens.
Meanwhile, head coach Darren Sammy also requested clarity from the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the players’ return, as players and staff were constantly waiting.
Preparations to send players home via charter flight
Cricket West Indies (CWI) later issued an official statement stating that charter flights were being arranged to send the players home soon.
The board said in its statement, “During a high-level call earlier today involving CWI, ICC officials, a representative of team management, and a representative of the players, it was confirmed that a charter flight is currently being arranged for the team’s departure from India, with the expected departure scheduled within the next 24 hours.”
The statement also said, “While the situation remains complex and fluid due to international airspace restrictions arising from security concerns in the Gulf region, CWI assures the public that every precaution is being taken to ensure the safe return of the team to the Caribbean.”
According to reports, some of the team’s players may not return immediately. It is possible that many players may stay in India and directly join their respective franchises for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
