Rishabh Pant Under Pressure as BCCI Puts White-Ball Career on the Line

The 27-year-old superstar’s white-ball career is said to be in danger. It is reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given a strict warning to Pant,

“Show amazing in IPL, otherwise place in white-ball cricket will be difficult!”

Pant’s white-ball career: Why is there a stir?

Pant’s batting has that fire which makes the bowlers sweat, but in recent times his T20 and ODI performance has not been anything special.

While captaining the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2025, Pant scored only 269 runs in 12 matches.

In which, he definitely played an unbeaten innings of 118 runs, but the rest of the time his bat remained silent. Average 24.45 and strike rate 133.16 – these figures do not match the explosive Pant whom we see thrashing bowlers in Tests.

BCCI’s strict ultimatum

News 24 journalist Vaibhav Bhola revealed that BCCI has clearly said,

“As long as Pant doesn’t perform well in the Indian Premier League (IPL), he won’t be selected for white-ball cricket.”

Injury spoiled the game, still showed passion

Pant’s troubles increased further when he fractured his leg while playing reverse sweep on Chris Woakes’ ball in the Test match against England in Manchester.

Despite the pain, Pant showed courage and scored 54 runs in the second innings. But the injury ruled him out of Asia Cup 2025 and the Test series against West Indies.

BCCI said in the update, “Rishabh Pant was hit on his right foot while batting on Day 1 of the Manchester Test. He was taken for scans from the stadium. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress.”

Competition is tough, Samson-Jitesh ahead

In Pant’s absence, Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma have taken over wicketkeeping in T20I.

While Samson rocks the top order, Jitesh does wonders in the role of finisher. At the same time, KL Rahul remains the first choice in ODIs.

According to Vaibhav Bhola, “Indian team will follow a formula of three different wicketkeepers for three formats.”

At present, Pant played an important role in India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024, but now BCCI’s focus is on his consistency.
