Know the Mistake That Turned India’s Dominance into a Disappointing 2-2 Draw

India showed amazing performance with both bat and ball, but the mistakes of “drop a catch, lose the series” snatched the victory from their hands.

What was the big mistake of India in IND vs ENG?

India averaged 39.77 in batting, scored 12 centuries, while England lagged behind with an average of 37.57 and 9 centuries.

India also dominated in bowling. The average of fast bowlers was 34.95, better than England’s 36.53.

In spin, India took 14 wickets at an average of 55.50, while England could take only 13 wickets at an average of 72.46.

Which mistake led to the series draw?

India dropped 23 catches, England 17. India had to pay the price of these missed catches by giving away 718 runs, while England lost by 587 runs.

In two Tests, the margin of victory and defeat was less than 25 runs, so imagine how big a role these catches played.

England’s Harry Brook was the luckiest batsman. Out of his 481 runs in the series, 240 runs came after missed catches. In the Leeds Test, he narrowly escaped being dismissed on a no-ball by Jasprit Bumrah and then scored 99 runs.

India’s batting also had no less mistakes. Big names like Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant made mistakes that shouldn’t have happened. Gill let the good position of 430/3 at Headingley become all out for 471.

Pant also lost his wicket by playing a stupid shot on Bashir’s ball in the second innings. Pant’s run-out at Lord’s showed England the way to an easy victory.

Mohammed Siraj’s shot that hit the stumps was the saddest moment of the series.

However, India bounced back in the last two Tests. Ravindra Jadeja and Yashasvi Jaiswal took advantage of dropped catches to score centuries.

Jaiswal’s two dropped catches at the Oval and then scoring a century was a game-changer for India. But stars like Gill could only add 57 extra runs.

Virat Kohli said in 2018,

“We deserved better than 4-1,” and the story remained the same in 2025.

India dominated on every front, but dropped catches and stupid shots kept victory away.

If these mistakes had not happened, India might have won the series.
