His father passed away just a week ago, but Buttler chose to play for the Manchester Originals team.
On Instagram, he shared a photo from the 2019 World Cup, where he is standing with his father holding the trophy.
The caption was: “Rest in peace Dad, thanks for everything.”
This tribute came a few days after the match against the Oval Invincibles on August 9. Buttler’s performance in that match was not good – he was out on zero off just four balls.
His drive timing was messed up and the ball went straight into the hands of Donovan Ferreira.
The team paid tribute to Buttler’s father by wearing black armbands, but the Originals got into trouble.
Two wickets fell in just four balls, both on zero. Phil Salt scored 41 runs off 32 balls to take the team to 129, but that was not enough.
Oval Invincibles made a partnership of 114 runs with half-centuries from Will Jacks and Tawanda Muye and won the match in just 57 balls.
Emotional Breakdown Moment
Butler’s start in The Hundred has not been good so far. In the first match against Southern Braves, he was dismissed after scoring 22 runs off 18 balls. The Manchester team is at the bottom of the points table, no win yet.
Oval Invincibles have won both their matches. The Originals’ next match is against London Spirits at Old Trafford on August 11.
Fans got emotional after seeing this tribute. Butler showed that family comes first, but cricket is also his passion. Playing amid grief is not easy, but Butler showed courage.
