Breaking news! The Indian women’s cricket team finally won the World Cup. In the final match played in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, the team, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, defeated South Africa by 52 runs.

India batted first and scored 298 runs, with Shafali Verma playing a brilliant innings. Then, Deepti Sharma took four wickets and scored 58 runs.

Team receives a grand welcome in Delhi
The team landed at Delhi airport on Tuesday evening. They arrived from Mumbai on a special Star Air flight. Security was tight at the airport, with police checking buses and dogs conducting inspections.
The team went straight to the hotel. The Indian Express has learned that a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take place at 6 pm on Wednesday.
A ceremony will be held at the PM House, where the team will be honored. After that, the players will leave for their homes.
A large crowd gathered at the Mumbai airport to bid farewell to the team along with coach Amol Mazumdar.
South African captain Laura Wolvaardt scored 101 runs in the final, but Amanjot Kaur took a brilliant catch off Deepti’s bowling, dismissing her.
PM Modi’s congratulations and plan
Prime Minister Modi congratulated the team immediately after winning the match. He posted,
“A spectacular win by the Indian team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals. Their performance in the final was marked by great skill and confidence. The team showed exceptional teamwork and tenacity throughout the tournament. Congratulations to our players. This historic win will motivate future champions to take up sports.”
Tight security arrangements are in place in Delhi. Police were deployed along the route of the team bus. This victory is bringing a wave of joy across the country.
India’s score in the final was 298, South Africa was restricted to 246. Deepti Sharma was named Player of the Match.
The team will now meet the Prime Minister and move forward with renewed energy.
