The final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 was played on March 8th at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, and Team India defeated New Zealand by a crushing 96 runs.

After losing the toss and batting first, India posted a mammoth total of 255/5 in 20 overs. In reply, New Zealand were bundled out for just 159 runs in 19 overs.
Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan made a splash
In India’s innings, Sanju Samson played a blistering 89 runs off 46 balls, including 5 fours and 8 sixes. Abhishek Sharma also hit 52 runs off 21 balls.
Ishan Kishan scored 54 runs off 25 balls. Together, the trio thrashed the New Zealand bowlers. In the final overs, Shivam Dubey hit 26 runs off just 8 balls to take the team to 255. Jimmy Neesham took three wickets for New Zealand but conceded a lot of runs.
Bumrah’s havoc, New Zealand’s batting in ruins
Chasing the target of 256, New Zealand had a poor start. Jasprit Bumrah took four wickets for just 15 runs in four overs, completely turning the match around. Axar Patel also supported Bumrah well by taking three wickets.
For New Zealand, Tim Seifert scored 52 runs off 26 balls and Mitchell Santner added 43, but the other batsmen failed to do much.
Bumrah was named Player of the Match for his lethal bowling. Team India, under the captaincy of Surya Kumar Yadav, created history by winning the title.
