But the biggest highlight of this match was Joe Root’s brilliant century and Dhruv Jurel’s amazing catch, which won everyone’s heart.
Joe Root’s brilliance, Jurel’s performance
England started chasing the target of 374 runs. Joe Root took the responsibility as soon as he came to the crease and made a tremendous partnership of 195 runs with Harry Brook. Root scored 105 runs in 152 balls, which included 12 fours.
His innings was so brilliant that former England captain Nasser Hussain praised him by saying,
“A truly magnificent Test cricketer in the form of his life. England’s present No 4 will never forget the previous No 4 that meant so much to him.”
After completing his century, Root wore a white headband in tribute to Graham Thorpe, which the fans liked very much.
Nasir also said, “Root has played in a Root way, barely playing a shot in anger and just stroking the ball. I don’t know if I have ever seen him play the cover drive as well as he has today.”
But the twist in the story came when Prasidh Krishna dismissed Root in the 73rd over.
Krishna bowled a short-length ball outside the off stump, Root tried to play it, but the ball took the edge of the bat and went towards Dhruv Jurel.
Jural dived in the air and caught such a catch that there was silence in the stadium. Fans and commentators were all surprised! This catch was so great that it immediately went viral on social media.
Siraj’s miss and England’s hope
Earlier, Mohammed Siraj missed an easy catch of Harry Brook when he was on 19 runs. Brook later made 111, which put India on the back foot.
Nasir Hussain had warned,
“Siraj has done so much in the series – leading wicket-taker, all his heart and passion – but may be remembered for the catch that wasn’t. That is the game, I’m afraid and that was a game-changing moment.”
England now have Jamie Smith and Jamie Overton at the crease, and victory is so close that India need a miracle on the last day.
What’s next?
India made 396 in the second innings, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (118) and Akash Deep (66) batting superbly. But England’s batting turned the match in their favour.
Will India be able to bounce back, or will England win the final Test of the series? The last day’s play will decide!
