Even though India is trailing 2-1 in the series, the team created history in batting.
With a record-breaking performance, the team led by Gill not only scored the most runs, but also rained fours.
IND vs ENG:Broke the record of astonishing runs
India has scored 3272 runs in this series so far, which is India’s highest score in any Test series. In the first match, 471 and 364 runs were scored at Headingley in Leeds, then 587 and 427/6 were scored at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
By scoring 387 and 192 at Lord’s, and 358 and 425/4 in Manchester, India showed how much power their bat has.
This figure also surpassed the 3270 runs scored against West Indies in 1978/79.
IND vs ENG: India’s Rain of fours
India hit 402 fours in this series, which is the most in any Test series in Indian cricket history. Earlier in 1964, India had hit 384 fours against England.
This new record was made under Gill’s captaincy, which shows how much the Indian batsmen thrashed the England bowlers.
Ben Stokes also agreed
England captain Ben Stokes, who is out of the fifth Test due to injury, told Sky Sports,
“There’s been a lot of talk about this Indian team coming without Ravi Ashwin, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli – three big players who’ve done really well. But this Indian team is quality. You look at the performances of their batters and the efforts of their bowlers. So I think we’ve made really good progress.”
Stokes also said, “The series has been good, the standard of cricket has been exceptional. Both teams have given their absolute best so far and I don’t think it’ll be any different.”
Amazing even without Kohli-Rohit
Gill’s team showed amazing performance with the bat even without legends like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Stokes admitted that the pitches were helpful for the batsmen, but India took full advantage of it. Stokes said,
“Unresponsive pitches have been frustrating, but if you’re expecting everything to go your way all the time… when you’re up against it, it shows a lot of character to be able to get results from both sides.”
