The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a 17-member squad for the upcoming first Test against Bangladesh in which the selectors made a shocking decision.
Spinner Abrar Ahmed and uncapped batsman Kamran Ghulam have been left out of the squad. Former cricketer Basit Ali is unhappy with the decision and has regretted the selectors’ thinking.
In the first Test match starting from August 21, the Pakistan team will take the field with an all-out pace attack. Meanwhile, Abrar and Kamran will get a chance to play in the four-day match against Bangladesh ‘A’ in Islamabad.
The PCB said that Abrar needs match practice before the second Test starting on August 30.
Basit Ali said that the team lacks a specialist spinner but considering the current weather conditions, the decision is not right.
Despite the possibility of rain, there will only be fast bowlers in the Pakistan team, which does not seem to be the right strategy based on past experience.
Basit says Pakistan last played a Test match with an all-pace attack during the home series against Sri Lanka in 2019, and is doing so once again now.
Pakistan now have all-rounder Salman Ali Agha as the only spin option, who has picked up some crucial wickets in recent Test matches.
Basit said this selective approach could be a serious concern for the future of Pakistan’s Test cricket.
