The ongoing stir and controversy in the world of cricket regarding the 2024 Champions Trophy has been in the headlines recently.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has started preparations for organizing this important tournament, although no official statement has been made related to it yet.
ICC Set $ 65M budget for CT 2025
Recently, the ICC has approved a budget of about $ 65 million at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Colombo. This budget includes the costs associated with organizing some matches outside Pakistan.
According to sources, a budget of $ 35 million has been allocated for this tournament, while an additional $ 20 million has been set aside for participation and prize money.
A provision of $ 10 million has been made for the television production costs of the 15-match and 20-day tournament. This budget reflects the ICC’s commitment towards a great presentation of the competition and a world-class event.
Is the Indian team sure to go to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025 ?
The Champions Trophy is proposed to be held between February 19 and March 9, 2024, and the approval of this budget shows that the ICC is ready to deal with any situation.
According to Cricbuzz, the issue of the Indian team’s participation or absence in the Champions Trophy was not discussed in the various forums of the AGM, but a contingency plan has been made.
Given the growing concerns over the Indian team’s visit to Pakistan, the ICC has considered potential match venues outside Pakistan, although there has been no specific discussion on which venue ‘outside Pakistan’ the matches will be held at.
The CEC note further states, “A planning meeting and inspection of the proposed match venues in Pakistan took place in March 2024. Considerable renovation work is underway at all three venues (Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi) to improve facilities.”
Also, if the Indian team refuses to visit Pakistan, a new plan will have to be worked out for the ICC. Possibilities like holding the match at a potential venue outside Pakistan and change of venue for Indian spectators can be considered.
However, according to sources, an ICC team will inspect three major venues in Pakistan next month, which will help in further improving the preparations for the event.
At the same time, given the issues of India’s participation and possible change of venue, cricket fans may still have to face many unresolved questions.
