In a video shared on his social media, he reminded fans of the historic day when India won the ICC trophy after 11 years.
Hardik proudly said, “I did it for the country!” and praised his spirit.
India’s victory in the final held in Barbados last year was nothing short of a miracle. 26 runs had to be defended in the last four overs, and Hardik did a great job.
In the 17th over, he dismissed Heinrich Klaasen and in the 20th over, along with Suryakumar Yadav, took a brilliant catch of David Miller.
His figures of 3/20 played a big role in India’s victory. With the bat too, he made the match exciting by scoring 5 runs in 2 balls.
Why was Hardik left behind in the Man of the Match?
Hardik’s all-round performance in the final was excellent, but the Man of the Match title went to Virat Kohli, who played an innings of 76 runs. Some fans felt bad for Hardik, but Kohli’s innings gave the bowlers a chance to win.
Hardik said, “I suffered a lot in those 6-7 months, but I did not give up. It is a matter of pride for me to do this for the country.”
The dream of captaincy also shattered
Despite such a great performance, Hardik did not get the T20 captaincy. Suryakumar Yadav was made the captain after Rohit Sharma’s retirement, as Hardik’s injury was a concern.
Hardik accepted it with sportsmanship and continued playing under Surya’s leadership.
