Taylor last played an ODI against Ireland in 2021, and now he is ready to join the 16-member squad and take on Sri Lanka in Harare.
Taylor’s experience and his amazing batting are a big plus point for Zimbabwe.
Head of selectors David Mutendera said,
“We are very happy to welcome Brendan back to the team. His experience and ability are invaluable, especially under pressure situations, and his presence will undoubtedly make the dressing room better.”
That is, with Taylor’s return, the atmosphere in the dressing room is also going to be tremendous!
Apart from this, fast bowler Richard Ngarava is also returning after recovering from injury, who will strengthen Zimbabwe’s bowling along with Blessing Muzarabani.
There are also four new faces in the team – Clive Madande, Tony Munyonga, Brad Evans and new fast bowler Ernest Masuku. Captain Craig Ervine will lead this mix.
Ervine said about the challenge against Sri Lanka,
The transition from red ball to white ball cricket is always a test, especially against a team of Sri Lanka’s caliber. We have to be flexible, stick to our plans and take full advantage of our home conditions to compete strongly in both matches.
That is, the captain is in the mood to give Sri Lanka a tough fight by taking advantage of the pitches of Harare.
Mutendera said on team selection,
This team has been selected to give us a chance to perform at our best against a strong Sri Lankan team. We have selected proven match-winners as well as players who are desperate to make a mark, and this mix of experience and energy will be extremely important for us in the fast-paced ODIs from red-ball cricket.
Head coach Justin Sammons also showed enthusiasm. He said,
We have just come out of a tough red-ball series and now it is time to adjust to the speed and intensity of one-day cricket. Sri Lanka is a strong white-ball team and will punish any lapse, so we have to be sharp from the first ball.
Both ODIs will be played on 29 and 31 August at Harare Sports Club. This dashing Zimbabwean team is ready to give tough competition to Sri Lanka.
