Why was the Bangladesh tour cancelled?
India was to play six white ball matches in Bangladesh from 17 to 31 August 2025. But both the boards together postponed this tour to next year. The reason is the international schedule and some logistical problems.
But fans need not be disappointed, because Sri Lanka sensed the delicacy of the opportunity and proposed the series to the BCCI.
Chance for Virat-Rohit to return!
The biggest twist in this series could be the return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, both of whom recently took a break from Tests and T20s and are focusing on ODIs.
If this series happens, fans will get a chance to see their favorite stars in action again.
Also, this series will give the players great practice before the Asia Cup, which could be held in September 2025.
BCCI’s decision is yet to be made
The BCCI is considering this proposal, but the decision will depend on the schedule of the Asia Cup. The Asia Cup is likely to be held from 17 to 27 September, but its confirmation is yet to be done due to the approval of the Indian government and the tension between India and Pakistan.
BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia will talk to coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and the players about this during the Lord’s Test.
For now, if this series happens, it will be a great opportunity for both teams. This series will fill the schedule left vacant due to the cancellation of the Bangladesh tour.
