BREAKING: Jemimah Rodrigues Named Delhi Capitals Captain for WPL 2026!

Delhi Capitals have made a big announcement. The team has appointed Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues as their new captain for the next season, WPL 2026. The news broke on Tuesday, and fans are thrilled.

Jemimah has been performing brilliantly for India this year, especially in the ICC Women’s World Cup.

Jemimah’s Stellar Performance

In the semi-final against Australia, India had to chase a target of 339 runs. In that match, Jemimah scored an unbeaten 127 runs. This innings was one of the best knocks of the tournament. Her composure and ability to perform under pressure were evident to all.

Upon being appointed captain, Jemimah said, “It is an absolute honour to be named captain of the Delhi Capitals, and I am deeply grateful to the owners and the support staff for placing their faith in me to lead this team.”

She further added, “It has truly been a dream year for me and my family, winning the World Cup and now being entrusted with this wonderful opportunity at a franchise that has held a very special place in my heart since the very first season of the WPL.”

A Long-Standing Relationship with Delhi Capitals

Jemimah has been a part of the Delhi Capitals since the very first season. The team picked her first in the auction. So far, she has played 27 matches and scored 507 runs at a strike rate of 139.67. Notably, she has played in all three WPL finals.

The previous captain was Meg Lanning, but the team released her last month before the auction. Jemimah has learned a lot from Lanning. She said, “I have learned so much over the last three years and have shared some of my best moments with the Delhi Capitals. We have a strong group, and I can’t wait to get going as we look ahead to what we hope will be a very successful season, and finally cross that line that has eluded us in the last three years.”

At the international level, Jemimah has scored 2444 runs in 113 T20 matches and 1749 runs in 59 ODIs.

The Delhi Capitals will begin their WPL 2026 campaign against the Mumbai Indians on January 10th in Navi Mumbai. The team will be aiming to win the trophy this time around.
