There has been a huge uproar in Pakistan cricket following the T20 World Cup 2026. The team was eliminated from the Super 8, after which the Pakistan Cricket Board fined the players 5 million PKR.

Meanwhile, a major blow came when former ICC umpire Aleem Dar resigned as selector.
T20 World Cup 2026 uproar
According to reports, Aleem Dar decided to step down from his post on March 2, 2026.
He had been part of the PCB’s new selection committee since October 2024. Questions were already being raised about Pakistan’s poor batting and bowling.
RevSportz Global wrote on its X account, “Pakistan selector Aleem Dar resigns. The former ICC panel umpire was surprisingly inducted in October 2024. #T20WorldCup”
It is being reported that the selection committee was under immense pressure following the team’s consistently poor performance. Although officially described as a “voluntary decision,” cricket circles are considering it a result of pressure.
Aleem Dar has had a long and illustrious career. He umpired in international cricket for over 20 years and officiated in 448 matches. He has also been a three-time ICC Umpire of the Year.
Change continues within the PCB
Change within the PCB is not new. According to reports, 26 different selectors have been replaced for the men’s team since 2021. Aleem Dar becomes the 27th name on this list.
The selection committee currently consists of Aaqib Javed and Asad Shafiq. Data analyst Usman Hashmi serves only in an advisory role and does not have the authority to make final decisions.
Previously, white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten also resigned in October 2024. Pakistan’s performance in the 2026 T20 World Cup failed to live up to expectations, except for the final match against Sri Lanka, which the team won by 5 runs.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is now under scrutiny for his decisions. A major announcement regarding the new selection committee is expected in the coming days.
At present, Pakistan cricket is in turmoil.
